I "Suck" at Sharing Jesus

Before you all get your panties in a wad about my choice of language, let me explain.  Yesterday I met a girl at a pizza restaurant.  We both had our three kids with us, all around the same age, so we had plenty to talk about.  In the discussion I learned she sells vacuum cleaners.  She’s one of those folks who goes to homes to give a demo on the machine and to show you just how dirty your house is without said machine.  Lots of times when I meet these people I immediately try to get away because it’s just too hard to think of an excuse for them to not come to my house.  I’ve used the following: I don’t have pet hair in my house, we have hardwood throughout, or I’m ok with dust.  Believe me; they have an answer for everything- basically one should never live without this vacuum.  But yesterday was different.  This chick casually mentioned the vacuum thing, and as I started to automatically tense up, I began to realize she wasn’t really trying to push one on me.  Instead, we carried on the conversation and just got to know each other.  By the end of dinner, I had not only made a new friend, but I also was a little bit interested in learning more about this vacuum cleaner.  Hey, I might even let her come show me just how much dust is in my mattress!
On the drive home I started thinking about how all this kind of relates to sharing Christ with others.  What’s our hang up?  In my Bible study group, we just started reading Francis Chan’s book, Crazy Love.  In the first chapter, he talks about the “Awe Factor” of God’s creation.  If we just stop and LOOK around us, we should be amazed!  For me, I think I just take His creation, His love, His forgiveness, His grace, all for granted!  I should be telling everyone I meet about HIM!  If this girl I never met before can slip a vacuum cleaner into a conversation, why can’t I talk about my Savior?  Is it because I’m afraid that people will perceive me the same way I see vacuum cleaner salesmen?  Will they think I’m too pushy?  Will they tell me no?  But see, she wasn’t pushy.  She took the time to get to know me before even bringing up her profession.  And guess what else; I don’t think she will drop over dead if I tell her no!  She will go on about her life, being confident, that she has the answer to our household dust mite crisis.  And that maybe, she will save at least a few homes along the way.
